History: Bay Point was known as "Hoganock" to Native Americans & early Southampton settlers. By 1872, Jeremiah Eldridge sold part of the area to Abram Hewitt, who was later to become mayor of NYC. By 1928, all ~100 acres of Bay Point was owned by W.B. Codling. His daughter, Helen C. Halstead, of East Hampton, inherited the property. In the late 1940s, the Home Guardian Company started formal development with an initial purchase of 40 acres, split into 501 "lots", selling for $275 to $675 each. A subsequent 40 acres was purchased and developed. A waterfront marina & docks were planned for community use, but never completed
The Association: The Bay Point Property Owners Association (BPPOA or The Association) was founded on April 18th, 1956. The BPPOA received its official New York State Corporate Charter on July 3rd, 1956. We are a voluntary Association, Membership is not mandatory or required as a homeowner or renter. However, we strongly encourage everyone to join the Association.
Location: Bay Point is located within walking distance from Foster's Memorial Beach on Long Beach Road. Bay Point is about two miles from the Village of Sag Harbor. A Bike & walking path is available the entire way to the Village.
Community: The Bay Point community includes 228 single-family homes, most built on half-acre lots. We have access to Southampton Town water lines, road repairs, and snow removal.
Water Access: Bay Point homeowners enjoy water access at three locations;
We have steps leading to the water, located on the east side of the Entrance and at the end of Cliff Drive. We have a boat ramp located on the east end of Bay View Drive East.
The Association's Goals Are:
Retain the high quality of life found in Bay Point
Support programs which enhance property values
Overview: Surrounded by water on almost all sides, Bay Point's status as a unique and distinct region within the community has been well recognized and documented for over 150 years. Our mailing addresses are all in Sag Harbor. While we are outside the Village, we are within the Sag Harbor School District and are legally part of the Town of Southampton.
